As always, the Western Museum of Flight tries to bring you the back story. Come hear how the evolution of US Navy’s front line fighter bomber sprung form the YF-17 prototype to the highly advanced F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet. Who better to relate the ins and outs of the YF-17 then the original test pilot Jim Sandberg, Colonel USMC retired. Don’t think Sandberg was a one note pilot. He graduated from the Naval Academy to become USMC Officer in 1971 went on to USMC (Naval Aviator) transition training (1972) , and flew A-4s in the fleet and as an IP. He graduated from USAF Test Pilot School (1977) shortly followed by Navy Fighter Weapons School (1979) plus conducted the first two operational evaluations of the F-18A HORNET. Jim will lead us through the thirty-year saga that culminated in this remarkable airplane. Please join us.
