You are invited to attend a meeting with the Torrance-based flight schools in the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library Meeting Room.
Per the direction of the Transportation Committee of the City Council, City staff have begun working with the Torrance flight schools to develop a voluntary letter of agreement (LOA) to help alleviate repetitive flights and noise over the community. Beginning January 18, 2023, the flight schools have agreed to voluntarily abide by the following:
- South pattern will not be used for flight training.
- South runway will only be used for approach and departure. Upon departure, aircraft will not turn prior to shoreline.
- Flight schools will utilize other airports, sending aircraft in scheduled groups for training.
- Flight schools will stagger flights as much as possible to avoid saturating the airspace all at once.
These are the first steps toward the development of a voluntary LOA. The City would like your participation and feedback as we hope to work together to achieve an amicable resolution.
